Social 1: Foundational Social Skills

Description

For children with an ASD diagnosis, supporting the development of social skills is important for peer inclusion, emotional wellbeing, academic learning, and carrying forward in life.

In Social 1, begin by learning about challenges in social interactions, including communication, theory of mind, fixations, and sensory challenges. Understand fundamental social skills for students to develop and ways to help children learn these in a classroom or 1-on-1 setting.

In Social 2, we will build upon what we will learn in Social 1 and focus on supporting interactions and inclusion with peers. We will cover the importance of peers; preparing for social interaction; supporting inclusion; privacy, safety, and bullying, peer buddy systems; and circle of friends.
